Default New problem

Ok,.. new problem.

Replaced ignition switch. All was good for about 5 minutes and then,.. blah.

I figured out what it was though,.. Captain Obvious showed me.

Here are some pics for the ignition switch and what broke.

Now the messed up thing is,.. I dont even know what its called.

Its the actuator that comes out of the key cylinder switch that activates the ignition switch. Anyone ever seen one of these brake before? This is my first one.

Next question is,.. does anyone have one,.. and if not,.. what is it called so I can get a replacement part. I'm thinking if no one has one I could probably Cophers might have something.

The broken rod works on a slider and the whole thing is all one part. The key cylinder goes into this part of the ignition also.

Anyone help a poor guy out?

Thanks,

Hurst

Would that be a cheaper way to go?
Seems like it would be about the same amount of work.

This is from a 93 GT. Funny thing is,. there is a "Quality Ford Rebuilt Unit" sticker on the column shaft. LoL

When did they come out with the Air bag columns,.. 90 or 91? I cant remember. Will the air bag steering wheel work on a tilt column? I'd rather have a tilt coumn,. my fat ass need one.

Hurst, have what you need ... pretty sure, from 88GT steering column. Does this (THE NEEDED PART) slide behind the switch area? You can have it, if so.

you need a 90-93 column. there is a few other things involved in order to put the older tilt wheel 87-89 one in it's place.

Yes,.. there is a bracket that is attached to the key cylinder,.. its all one big awkward piece. This part slides in it and the pin is what actuates the ignition switch when bolted to it. The part that it bolts to isnt broken,.. just the part that slides. But its all the same part,.. so I need the whole thing. I need either the whole column or just that part. Which ever is easier.

What kinda deal can we work out?
I need this like yesterday.

Will just the part that slides from the 88 column work on the 90 - 93?

What would be needed to make the 88 column work? I have an 86GT that has tilt column that I can cannibalize as a last resort.

Edit:
The ignition switch itself has the same part number from 79 - 93.

Hurst,

The column is out, has damaged key/lock cylinder area.

Behind the ignition switch seems to be where your "target part" is, and this area is fine (OE ignition switch still riveted over it)--- you can have it all, that hidden metal piece and the damaged column which houses it.

Back after dinner ... LMK

Hell yeah,.. I need this. Might be able to get out and roam the streets this weekend maybe if I get this fixed.

I can bring the headers with me to pick it up. How does that sound?
