Cams or camshafts i dunno

ok---a single overhead cam means there is one cam mounted above the head driving the valves----if the car has two heads yes there are two cams----(like your car)--- dual overhead cam means there are two cams mounted above each head driving the valves--there are twice as many valves as a single overhead cam-----a car with an inline configuration can be either of theses as well but would only have one or two cams because there is only one head.....
on our cars 4.6l sohc---you have two cams one above each head---driving 16 valves-----
on the cobra motor you have a dohc-----you have four cams--two above each head--they have twice as many valves 32v-----thats why the cobra heads flow so much better--they have virtuallt twice the air flow capability of the sohc.....

there are two chains that run from the crank---one to the left cam and one to the right cam----they hook to a sprocket on the end of the cam---the spocket attaches to the cam and drives it----just like in a 5.0-----
on the dohc motor there is an extra sprocket on the first cam that attaches another chain over to the second cam----hope this makes sense---i wish i could show you a pic.....

there are no pushrods-----sean hyland is the only person ive seen that makes cams for the 4.6L--but its not as simple as just putting them in---youll have to get different valves---probably different springs or the 5.4L springs and have a head that will flow enough to take all of that extra lift and duration---basically what you need is the svo heads or a nice set of 5.4L heads or ported pi heads----and that will cost you roughly 2000 and the cams are 800 plus the install if you have someone do it---then your looking at 4000-5000 which would be stupid considering your only gonna pick up about 70-80hp at best---it would be cheaper to run nos or a supercharger and you would see better gains......
