If you still have the coil packs on up front the ballast or resister thingys that are supposed to suppress the ignition noise from the radio are prone to cause ignition problems. That and the coil packs them selves can become faulty. When mine went bad I had mis-fire codes come up. See if you know someone who has a 93 -98 4.6 engine,.. can be anything,.. Tbird, F150, Mustang and borrow their coil packs and see if it still does it. If not then there ya go.

If thats even your problem. I would go to parts store and have them run a diagnostic check on it and see what codes it throws before buying modules. They arent that cheap.

If the car wont run right above 4000 RPM it has to be throwing some kind of code. There is no possible way it wont.

Personally I'm leaning more toward an MAF, TPS issue vs an ignition issue. That or a vacume leak throwing the signals off.

I had the codes read. Theres one with something with the egr and one for o2 sensors. But those have been on for like a year. When My chip is on they arent so thats the only reason why they arent on now. I took my chip out to see if my chip was screwing things up.

Bingo,.. The engine can run strictly off the MAF and TPS with out getting any signal from the O2's. How ever,.. the MAF can only compensate for so much. At high RPM it will break up because of the lack of an O2 signal. The computer uses signals from the O2's to control the ignition advance (among other things). Not the only thing to effect it,.. but having had a similar issue in a GT that I converted to a DOHC motor,.. I think this is your problem. I had high RPM break up at anything over 4500 rpm. Even with my foot matted to the floor. Supposed to not matter at WOT,.. but it went away after I got the O2's to send the compter a signal.

Advanced Auto will pull codes for free. By what you described to me,.. I'm willing to bet cleaning your MAF wires and finding out what is wrong with your O2's will fix your problem.

I frequent the Tampa area, and I would be willing to check out your car for free. If I can figure out something and fix it, throw me a little something, if I can't, then thanks for letting me play.

The guys in this thread will vouch for my cred and rep. If you are interested, call me and we can work something out.

I can vouch for Brian personally. He is one of the best Ford tuners in the area. And very reasonably priced. He fixed the wiring issues on my car. And did the dyno tune on the previous motor I had in it. I was 100% satisfied.

And no,.. I'm not on his payroll nor do I nut swing. You'll just have to meet him to understand where I'm coming from.

FYI, As I understand it - codes automatically clear themselves after X number of cold starts as long as the condition no longer exists. The fact that you say the codes have been in there for so long tells me that you've likely had an intermittent problem for a while and it finally failed 100%.

Clear the codes then check again after a couple of drives. Bet you see them again.
