i got a 2000 mercury cougar with the 2.5.im leaking gas somewhere on top of the tank i know i have to drop it to see where its coming from but i dont know how to remove the filler neck does anyone know?>

 

IIRC, there are 3 screws in the filler door, one to a bracket from the filler neck to the frame or the actual tank it's self. I'm pretty sure it's to the tank. Once you get all those off, I THINK there are three more un the trunk which need to come off also, but I'm not positive. Once you get those, you'll have to drop the tank and pull it out of the tank at that point.


*edit* plan on replacing the filler neck gasket. Also, the leak is likely coming form the fuel line.
