Maybe go this route, and try a long magnet. BTW it will give you a awesome chance to fully detail the engine and accessory brackets!

Finally got time to get back to the "oil pump rod" hunt.

Borrowed a BoreScope ... found it! Located in front sump --- will cut the hole tomorrow. Where can we buy that pan adhesive at?
