WTF is this sound..?

Might be the fan clutch. Mine whines like a bitch for about 4 blocks after I first fire it up.

this is 88 CRX Si....yea but it isnt loud its just a slight humm and its sooooooo annoying it doesn t sound like the fan belt its wayyyy to quiet and it does it in nuetral not when the car is moving....makes no sense

If its a whine...fan clutch. If its a squeek belt or tensioner. Take the fan off and see if the sound goes away. If it is the clutch it MAY indicate that its on its way out but not necessarily. Mine works just fine but has made that sound ever since Ive bought the car. I thought it was the supercharger making that noise when I first got the car.

Does the sound increase in volume if you are sitting still and you turn the wheel to either side? If so its possible that it is the power steering pump? have you ever checked the fluid?

or Am I just too damn used to old American cars?

Oh I thought you were talking about a CRX since I know that a mustang is an american car LOL.

Still try to turn the wheel back and forth and check the power steering fluid before you burn up that pump.
