Im not sure if you meant 98 or (not that was not the new body style). If your looking to buy a mustang; stay away from 96-98 GTs. Thier pigs and their isnt many parts for them. The new Cobras are nice(9901) but they have I.R.S. If youre serious about drag racing I wouldnt get one cause of that if not than I would look into them. The new GTs (99-01) are good (alot better than the old ones) I personally like the 96-98 Cobras. They have a solid rear axle respond well to mods fairly easy to find and arent priced to high. Im guessing bone stock numbers w/ 5 speed:
96-98 GT: 14.7-15.0
96-98 Cobra: 14.0-14.3
99-01 GT: 14.1-14.4
9901 Cobra: 13.9-14.2

Get a 98 cobra they are the fastes cobra.99 are nice but they have IRS and that fix BS and if you put mac long tubes you will have oil consuption probs.the 2001 are bad ass but they are like 30000 bucks and i dont know if you have that kind of cash.talk to bite mark 4.6 his car rides out with miner boltons. 98 cobras make around 264 RWHP.and the girls love cobras

You really cant go wrong with either the new Cobra or a 99 up GT. The ideal way to go would be a live axle swap in a new Cobra but a new GT with a Vortech is a proven low 12 sec. car.
Also if you dont mind the older body style it seems the 98 Cobras aare the strongest out of the box and do go mid 12s with bolt ons.

Somebody call me? My cobra has the basic bolt-ons. The motorclutchtranny and the weight is stock. I would go for a late model 98. 96 had cooling probs. 97 has a less agressive tune from factory. Plus in 98 tremec bought ought borg-warner so the tranny were alittle more durable in the later half of 98. If u have any questions feel free to pm me or something. -Mark
