Default Cleaning MAF's?

So apparently my MAF is dirty and needs to replaced according to the dealership. I have a CAI so they won't cover it. A mechanic friend of mine told me to hit it with some brake cleaner and blow it of with air. Would this clean it or harm it?

get some electrical contact cleaner, make sure it says residue free. you will need a security Torx bit T-20 i believe, remove the center section of the MAF, spray the cleaner onto the two small wires, be careful they are fragile. then reinstall

thanks. they said it was from oil and residue from the CAI but it was a b.s. excuse and didn't feel like fighting with them. i'll drop by Radio Shack and see if they have some contact cleaner.

Aftermarket filters (cai) that use oil DO make the problem worse.

I'm with mars, i use brake clean and a q-tip. just be gentle with it.

yup, thats why K&N filters are a bad idea unless you lightly oil them and make sure to drain all the excess oil off before installation

as for the Q-tips, have you ever seen how tiny those wires are? there is no way im touching those with anything other than a liquid
