Should I restore it?
I've come to find out this car is quite a bit more rare than I originally thought. Apparently the FHP only purchased 50 1984 SSP Mustangs back in the day. There are only approximately 5 known to still be in existance...mine being one of them.
So now comes the moral dilema. Before I knew about this I had absolutely no reservation about ripping out the interior and going to town on the performance mods. But now that I know how rare this car is, I'm feeling guilty about even thinking about something as minor as replacing the exhaust (which is still in great condition, however the cat may be bad).
This car went from being a vehicle of unlimited potential, to something I'm afraid to touch. The idea of restoring the car to trailer queen status does not appeal to me whatsoever. However, the idea of a partial restoration w/minor upgrades (that can be reversed) is very appealing. SSP purists state regardless of what I do to it, I'll be hacking apart a very rare car.
I'm at a loss. Should I keep it "as is" and restore it? Should I do what I want to it, so long as I can restore it to stock? Am i over analyzing this whole thing...after all it is a 1984 Mustang.
So I'm curious what you all think. Vote now.

Evidently I have no idea how to add a poll thingy...there was supposed to be one attached to the thread.
So here are the choices:
1. Fully restore it. Seal it in a gigantic zip loc bag and never drive it.
2. Do whatever you want to it...it is a friggin 1984 Mustang.
3. Compromise somewhere between choices 1 & 2.
4. Sell it to Pat for $50.

I say do a partial restore with reversible upgrades, keep the unique original parts, you might be able to retire off of it in 20 Years.
I want to get a bone stock unmolested 4-cyl fox and just store it, so in 15-20 years when there have all been gutted and turned into drag cars, i can sell it to Pat.

If one of the purists who are telling you what to do with YOUR car wants to give you a big pile of money to "save the breed", then go for it and buy something else. If not, do whatever the hell you want with it.
I let the purists talk me out of doing what I wanted with my last '69 Mach I and have been kicking myself in the butt since. Never again.
