Default What is this? :SUSPENSION:

Well, before I got this cougar, I really didn't like fords products, mainly because of my dad and hes always been that way.
Well, since i got the car, I have been leaning more towards liking ford.

Anyway, I just pulled off the rear wheels to give them a fresh coat of paint, OE style, don't worry, and I was examining the suspension.

The part I am curious about runs right behind the brake drum and goes towards the rear of the car. I am assuming its a stabalizer of some sort, but I kinda want the actual name of it. Also, from the looks of it, it looks like it would help to prevent the rearend from twisting, could this 'stabilizer' help towards traction?

it's called a quad shock, it does help keep the rear from twisting, leave it on there until you get some aftermarket components

What do you mean leave it on there? Meaning don't replace it with something better?

He's saying don't remove it (for weight purposes, or the such) until/unless you get something better

replace it if its worn out. But dont remove it and leave it off until you upgrade your upper and lower control arms to an aftermarket heavier duty piece.

haha, that thought never even crossed my mind, is it just a bar, or does it actually function as a shock?

its a shock from hard launches and beating the gears to keep the rear end from wraping up and straining ur uppers, and if u do buy upper and lowers leave it on there untill u get the torque boxes welded!!!!
