H-pipes are deafening compared to an X-pipe, by the way.

The X-pipes do make more power up higher in the RPM band, but the H-pipe gives you moer of a tumbling 'old school' sound like he said.

Exhaust questions:

This is what I have heard I should do H pipe, to 40 series flowmasters, then dumps but a few people said I would lose power from dumps and that I should put the stock exhaust back on after the flows.

1. Is it true i will lose power with dumps?
2. And should I do the H pipe?
3. What exhaust should I go with?

Any help is appreciated new to TR and new to Mustangs thanks for tha help?
If anyone has any questions for me about my motor or car its
a 98 Mustang GT. 4.6 V8

Thanks again!
That is the set up I have on my 98, h pipe to 40 series flowmasters. I don't have dumps I have the factory pipes going out the back. It sounds great to me. IMO I love the sound of my car.

On my old 98 Gt I ran a Mac 2.5" H-pipe (off road series) to a Flow master American Thunder cat-back system. The car sounded mean and loud. i personally liked it but when I say loud, its loud.

On my current Car I run a hearder back Bassani x-pipe/cat-back system. It's not quite as loud at times but has a nice back rumble to it on decceleration and absoultly screems at WOT. I personally like my Bassani system better but it is quite pricey.

honestly its all up to you listen to a bunch of cars as close to yours as possible then ask them what they're running. Other than that you've basically asked wich condom feels the best, and we'll all say NO CONDOMS FEEL THE BEST

I would have to say once it is a "used" condom it didn't feel bad .

Raspy is the right word for an X-pipe. not as deep as the H. Good luck and welcome to Ford Tech.

long tubes -> hollow cats -> no crossover -> 40s-> turn downs. that shit is loud. now i have
long tubes -> hollow cats -> no-crossover -> 50s-> nothing. still kinda loud, but no where as loud as 40s.

I tried it with just one 40 (the other one ripped off pulling car onto the trailer) and one open pipe, no way in hell you could have driven on teh street like that, i cant imagine no mufflers.

On a mild build run it out the back. W/O cats it will be plenty loud.

I'm gonna junk my exhaust setup and just run metal funnels at the end of two straight pipes.

When I was upgrading my 03 Cobra, I had the same questions about the exhaust. I choose the X-pipe for little better performance.
I went with Bassani X-pipe and Borla Cat back, and it sounds awesome. Not too raspy either like I heard the X-pipe may sound. It actually sounds good, has a deep throaty sound.
I tried it without the removable cats at first, and it was loud in fact too loud for my preference sporting around town.
With the cats though it sounds awesome.
