Question for the 2.3 Turbo guys...

Keep in mind that John Dell(Fourced) is running a tall deck motorsport block. Cool car, but it gets to make a few passes then its locked down in the shop for 4 years. Its a bit of a stretch to see it called a daily driver as Shannons site lists...
The 700hp engine referenced above that munched the crank was Joe Morgan. Theres alot of documentation on his 400hp pinto, as hes contributed the information to alot of sites over the past 10 years, but there is little in the way of a single document describing all in his 750hp 2.3, or his current 2800cc combo.
Contrary to what the guys on turboford will tell you, Joe is a cool guy who will tell you whatever you want to know as long as you put some effort forth...

Dude, if you are looking to make 6-700HP, dont be such a cheap fuck.
I MIGHT trust one to a junkyard combo if I had the time to waste or was building a super low buck car, but trust a 5-10000 dollar engine to a 300 dollar Heathkit ECU? Gimme a break.

And heres the pistons you want
::::: CP Pistons :::::
The turbo pistons are custom, but if you have Joe get them for you hes already got them lined up to make them. Just have to tell him what rod length(stock, 5.4, 5.5 etc) and head(stock head or Essy head).

I dunno.. I have a feeling that for every one who hit 400hp with stock rods and bolts there are 10 people who spit a stock rod and bolt combo before that point. Hell, Allen Moore has a ton of them alone.
I personally think saying that is like saying a 5.0 block is good for 600hp.... It might, but for how long, and what happens when something even remotely remotely goes wrong? A touch of detonation(which is bound to happen sooner or later, you cant control EVERYTHING) will take a rod that is living near the edge just happy and turn it, and the rest of the motor into a paperweight.

I'm more or less stating what has worked on my car or other cars I have personally seen and or worked on. I also know tf has several people listing over 400rwhp on stock blocks. The only people I can think of around that level that have killed their motors is deathbypsi and Bushwhacker. Thats in the last little while anyway. Bushwhacker isnt even near the 400rwhp and deathbypsi is on like a 100shot with the turbo and pump fuel.
I would stay far far away from cast or hyper pistons in a high hp 2.3t.
If you really, really want to be cheap and get a tune, just get a chip and find someone who can burn it for you. I might have just gotten lucky, but a friend had the software, burner and a spare chip, and that was that (though the wideband and dataloggin gear helped a bit, too). Once you get a copy of PCMX, which I know some like and some hate, you can burn chips for multiple cars. So if you're just doing this for one car, I guess MS is OK (even though you can get an EEC Tuner for less, despite that the MS yahoos think), but if you have a few things you're playing with like my friends and I do, the chips work out well. Not to mention that you're just tweaking stuff that's already there - no mods required.
Of course, this isn't for the guys planning on making 700 hp. I don't think I'll ever do that with a 2.3. I just end up asking 'Why?' earlier than most, I guess.
And I'll too say that Joe is a good guy. I've called him and grilled him about the Hot Rod article because some of the stuff in there just didn't make any sense to me (running 10's on stock injectors?!), and he's still more than willing to discuss that stuff, even though it's years old now!

yeah, Im startin to think theres two different conversations goin on here.. original poster askin questions about makin 700hp, and someone else talkin about 350.
Yeah, hes able to make 400hp on 4 36lb injectors because of the 90psi of fuel pressure
