There's nothing magic about a turbo that makes it push gaskets out easier. Cylinder pressure and/or detonation blow gaskets, a blower can do that too.
Cheap and effective=s/c... not everyone has the money for a turbo setup, that shit is expensive, and of how many cars you see go turbo... how many of them have problems with tuning, lag bullshit, etc? I know someone will say, "well if properly setup"... I'll finish that one, "you spend an assload of money!!!"
Tried and true, BLOWER!
Anyway, 11.2:1 on a blower is risky business, keep that timing way down and keep it fat. Even then you are asking for it... you could try running a real thick gasket to compensate as well.

+1...If you have the money then turbo is definitely the way to go, but the kits I've seen are between $4400-$4800. I also agree with the compression issue, sounds a little high, but you may be ok with a low boost(6 psi) kit.
