alright, very cool....progress. Re check your timing on the backfiring issue. I used a soldering gun on the wiring harness install. there are a lot of guys on here that know way more than I do but I will help in any way possible, just let me know.

Timing is perfect at the moment, we set it 2 or 3 days ago...

Whats puzzling to me is that the car doesnt idle with any aftermarket meter we've put into it.
The car did idle however when we had the stock replacement cobra meter connected, but it had no power to drive it would shut down when you engage the clutch

does it run with an aftermarket meter at all? You say it won't idle but will it stay running with keeping the pedal moving?

Yes I believe so, its backfiring the whole way down the street inside of the air inlet tube/intake, really nasty

We didnt get a chance to back down the fuel pressure last night because my allen wrench that was sized for the regulator fell and is sitting in the engine compartment somewhere...

To add insult to injury my adapter to connect the fuel guage to the test valve broke, and they dont sell them seperately at pepboys or advance

did you pull the distributer to do any work? It sounds like maybe with the back firing issue that you are a tooth off or so on the gears. How about spark plug wires, are they on correctly or maybe you have one or two crossed?

Yeah the shrader valve is a little flimsy compared to the size of the FPR's. A&E for that I guess huh..

We made sure spark plugs were in the correct posistion and they are only about a year old
Yes we have pulled the distributor to check the condition of the gears, ill be sure to check that its in the correct posistion.

Is there a difference between an 86 distributor and a 87-89 model year distributor?

The shrader valve is intact, the piece that broke was the adapter that goes onto the shrader valve that allows a fuel guage to be connected. That adapter happens to be part of the fuel guage package and they dont sell it seperately. So i have to return the entire fuel guage or have them open a new package to get that adapter.

I don't think there is a difference in distributers because I used my old one for the conversion I did. I am not sure but I would think that if they were different the kit would have mentioned needing/buying another one. Plus I don't remember adapting or soldering any wires for the distributer either except for the nitrous window switch...knowing my luck though I am wrong about this!
Can't believe A&E doesn't sell the adaptor for the schrader valve seperately...damn.

Your other thread: if the cam and crank are off marks, it may have been "dialed in" by moving those marks to different degrees of one another according to a wheel you buy at speed shops. If your motor is this way for a reason then you have to take that into consideration when timing, other wise it should be "6 o'clock" on the cam and "high noon" on the crank. If being a little off on the clock scenario it will throw timing off, it needs to be pretty close.
