Problem
Hey boss, the VSS (vehicle speed senser) is for cruise control, if you don't have cruise you don't need these wires. The fuel pump relay wires are of course for the fuel pump but all I know is I hooked mine up like the paperwork said and my car runs strong. I am not sure which cars do need them hooked up and which ones don't. I would imagine all the speed density to mass air conversions would and if you already have mass air and doing a "retrofit" you wouldn't. I remember they went over to the computer and plugged in to specific pins on the A9L. I am sure someone on here knows exactly, they probably aren't up yet....

I have a areomotive fuel pressure regulator and a lot of people told me to run at 40lb's of pressure, well it seems my car doesn't like 40lb's it likes 30 better. It would stumble, bounce in idle, stall and ran real rich. I backed it down to 30 and it runs like a race car. I dynoed the car and Sam told me the fuel to air was almost perfect, he told me he wouldn't change it. We had it at 5300 rpm and even up there he said it was fine.

When I did the conversion on my 86, 12 years ago, the instructions I got with my conversion harness made no mention of the VSS sensor or hooking up PIN19. To this day it has no VSS sensor. And PIN 19 only tells the computer that the fuel pump is working. The only down side to not having it hooked up is the computer will throw a code saying the fuel pump has a bad ground.
So, what I am saying is, these 2 variables will not be your problem.
I would double check the wiring of the MAF to the computer(that they are in the right pins) and get a correct MAF for your application. See what happens from there.

We got a new meter from blue oval, traced the new wires all day, and still no dice.
We are going to back down the fuel pressure to 30 like stewart scott has instead of 40 because it sounds like he had the same symptoms we have and we cant find any other issues
Its getting to the point where im considering getting rid of this heap because there comes a point where you've maxed out your budget and its to the point where you havnt had transportation for 6-7 months, yeah you get the picture

I can vouch for Dave's work. He did my last motor in my hatch and will soon be doing my motor in my coupe. He is very thorough in his work and knows his shit. Tell him Greg sent you.

man I am sorry to hear the about this, although adjusting the fuel pressure is part of some problems I don't know for sure if it will help yours. It may help it run better though and at least you'll know if it likes it or not. I kept replacing sensers until I hit the right one. Adjusting everything many times and I replaced everything, all sensers, it was a bitch trouble shooting though and I can understand the fustration. Don't give up, you'll get it.....

As these guys are saying, it sounds like you are running rich as hell. The A9L thinks you are running the stock mass air and the stock injectors so it is metering the fuel for the amount of air the mass air says is coming in. Trouble is, you have 24# injectors so you are getting 26% more fuel for the given injector pulsewidth. That;s if your fuel pressure is ste to stock which is 39 lbs with the vacuum off. You're running 42 lbs so that means you're getting even more fuel dumped in. You need to either get a meter calibrated for 24's or chip the computer to compensate for the setup you have. The reason it sort of runs when you disconnect the mass air is because the computer goes into limp mode...it is trying it's best to get it to run well enough to get you home because it thinks youe mass air has failed. Also, the computer uses the VSS for other things than just cruise control. For one, that's how it knows you are coming to a stop and it will hold the idle high until you drop below 5 mph then it will drop the idle down to the base idle setting in the computer.

We have the meter calibrated for 24 pound injectors (C&L)
I picked one up from blue oval yesterday, and unplugged the battery so the computer had a chance to reset itself, installed the meter, re attached the battery and the car starts, backfires inside the intake it sounds like, and will eventually shut down.
The seperate thread I posted about my throttle sticking - when the meter is plugged in The car revs correctly, when its unplugged and you press the gas and the rpms hold for a few seconds before it goes back down.
VSS Is not connected and I am about to purchase the MAF Wiring harness for $53 and redo the wiring that was done by some redneck who twist tied the meter connections together and bound them with electrical tape. I want to eliminate the wiring as a problem
And im also backing down the fuel pressure to 30 tonight
