Default i hate aluminum heads

I have an exhaust leak on my 4.6, thought it was the collector, took the wheel off today trying to get to the collector bolts and notice that the top bolt for #4 (the passenger side rear most) was gone, thought it backed out. Turns out that somehow the stud snapped flush with the head. checked the lower one, and that stud pulled the threads out of the head. This is on stock cast iron manifolds. I have never touched the exhaust.

So i guess i need a passenger side 4.6 2-valve NPI head.

460's are WAY worse for broken manifold bolts than a 4.6

Might pull the entire motor. it takes as long to pull the motor as it does to remove the heads, plus it will be alot cheaper since i wont need the $100 and something dollar head changing kit.
the thing with the upper one is that i can get a drill in there to drill out the upper bolt. the lower i might be able to use a longer bolt since only about 1/8" of threads came out.

$hawn, i have the cam, but two lobes have a gouge on them from where a broken rod contacted it.

take the manifold off first. maybe there is some of the bolt left that you can get to once the manifold is off.

can you snap a pix of the cam?

there are 3 little spots they are not very deep and only on the beginning of the ramp, not near the peak.
