alternator dilema

Default alternator dilema

ok i have the 94 alternator on my fox right now,but the wire thats black with the orange chaser on it,i been told their crapy and well they were rosting pretty bad,when i went to undo the nut the whole threded rod broke off,so now i dnkt know if i should buy a new one, or if thats repairable,anyone ever ran to this kind of problem??if you have a 94 alternator shoot me a price..

i have the same alt on my fox. it produces to much current to run thru 10 ga. wire you need to get a new alt, and put larger wires for the alt.

yeah,well would 4 gauge wire work ,i know the stock wire is 14 gauge i called the guy who installed it and he told me to replace it with 4 gauge,should thatbe ok?

it should be plenty thats what i have, stock wiring in a 5.0 fox should be 2 10 ga wires going to the alt. i run a 4 ga wire to my alt and to the battery havent had a problem with in over a year.

ok cool well,i have the 4 gauge goin to the battery now the 4 gauge goin from the laternator to the starte solenoid tomorrow,now i have to get that part that that 4 gauge goes to the altnator since it broke.

did the connector brake or did the bolt going inside the alternator brake?

the bolt goin inside the conector you know i slike maybe half of inch of threeded rod that pops out from the back with a nut i went to undo that and i guess it heated up so bad it just got all weak

you need to rplace you alternator to fix that, what happen was there was too much resistence, and cuase heat to build up breaking down the strength of the bolt

well that sucks,damn it well then i guess tomorow i will have to find a alternator shop that rebuilds them i call discount they want 150.00

theres a place in st. pete that rebuilds them i think, cost my dad $75 to rebuild the one for his ZR-1 corvette
