ranger engine upgrade options..
i have an 02 xlt ranger 3.0, 5 speed, with 42,000 miles on it ..
i really want to drop in a carb'd possibly stroked 302 auto into it .. but the 3.0 whipple supercharger kit has caught my attention too..
my truck is stock with 183 ft. tq , and 154 hp. at the flywheel.. the whipple puts those up to 260 ft. tq , and 230 hp... all for $2500 ..
i think i can do better then that , cheaper , with a 302 . .. thoughts?
thanks guys .

you read my mind good sir ...
what would be a good donor vehicle that i could pick up cheap. with a 9" rear.
An 8.8 should hold up fine and be a lot easier to find. A 9" might be overkill.

ive noticed the 4.0 with the 8.8 , i bet i could get that pretty cheap and alot easier to install ...
I appreciate the help guys!
$2500 for a Whipple sounds like a good price. When I looked at the Whipple for my 99 Ranger, I thought it was more like $3500. It would be easier to bolt up the Whipple than to do an engine swap. On rangerpowersports.com, on of the moderators has a 3.0 Whippple project truck. http://www.rangerpowersports.com/tech/30/whipple.shtml. If you were to swap in a new motor, you may have a harder time to get rid of the truck later. You also can keep all of your factory equipment.

Yeha the price of the whipple has dropped severely. Wanted one for my old '03 Ranger. But I would say it'd be more fun to drop the V8 in. The whipple doesn't put out a hell of alot of HP and I would question the longevity of the 3.0 motor. It's a great motor in a little truck but I know from experience they don't hold up well to any abuse.
