Default Ford starters sensitive to resistance?

There's a big note on Advance Auto Parts' website that says that the starter for the Torino is sensitive to resistance. The starter in the car currently won't turn over at all. I can hear the relay click, I get continuity through the relay, but no love. I pulled the wire from the relay to the starter, and it's got 6000 ohms of resistance on it, so, it's obviously rotten. I tried testing the starter by clipping a lead from my jumper cables to the starter and then tapping it to the battery, but no love still. Am I missing something in the circuit, the jumper cables put too much resistance still, or is the starter plainly dead?

is there a spayed terminal above the starter? if so run a jumper wire from the terminal where the cable is connected to the spayed terminal and it will complete the circuit

I didn't see anything but one ring terminal on top of the starter with a big 4ga wire from the starter relay on the fender.

Typically, the solenoid is between the battery and starter. There's a small wire coming from the key switch. When the key is turned, that wire gets hot, closes the contacts on the solenoid, and completes the circuit between battery and starter.

Its pretty simple and you bypassed that so it sounds like weak battery or dead starter.
The battery was only at 8.5 volts, but I had a jumper set run from my Caddy with 2 12v batteries fully charged. I could hear the relay click when I turned the key, and like I said, I checked both sides while the key was engaged for continuity and it was there. I think the relay is fine. The previous owner said the starter used to act up, so it's probably just time for a starter. I even tried whacking it with a hammer a few times just in case it was siezed up.

There any tricks to installing a Ford starter on a 351C? I'm used to Chevy starters. Two bolts, two wires, done.

Yup, the o-ring terminal was sandwiched between the two nuts. The wrench I had on the bottom nut slipped when I was trying to loosen the top one, so I might've broken the contacts inside the starter. Whatever, I'll just go buy a new one and throw it in this weekend.

Heh, maybe the Friday after. I still have to clean out the car, it stinks, and get an exhaust manifold or a set of headers. If I run it like it is now, it'll surely catch on fire, and if it don't, I'll at least suffocate.

Is Randy skinny? I think he already drooled all over my '67 once

That might've been him. I'll bring the Torino and the SS up to Wendy's one night so you can eyeball 'em both. Maybe I'll even get my roommate to drive my Caddy up.
