Default so i tore my motor apart and...

after trackday i had a small tick tock noise in my motor.. still had good oil pressure 65 psi at warm idle, like normal.

pulled the valve covers off, all the rockers looked fine, pushrods straight, so no problem there.

pulled the heads off, no bent valves, gaskets looked fine.

flipped it over, took off the oil pan, looked fine from visual inspection.

pulled the pistons, bearings were worn slightly, to be expected from a re-bearing without turning the crank.... no stretched rod bolts, no distorted rods no busted rings, oem 90 issue...... rings btw with a 225 shot..

pulled a couple of main caps, same thing, bearings show wear, but not out of the ordinary.

pull the front cover, viola!!! worn timing chain....

now here is my dilema, should i turn the crank and toss the stock stuff back in with new rings and bearings and keep the nitrous tune nice and tight.

or

go ahead and toss some aftermarket i-beams in it, turn up the wick on the nitrous kit, and risk splitting the block???

i eventually will get a motor like my daddy scott has one of these days (next 2 years) so there is no point in getting h-beams etc... IMO.

what would you guys do?

slap that hooker back together,I was going to upgrade shit too,but the block will never hold it.Go out in a blaze, just make sure I have my camera. If my car is done by the 10th i'm sure it will be broke by the end of the night.

i have a 4-bolt block, with a scat crank crank, and i-beams, and ross pistons, and it is fully balanced, and i'm afraid of running my 225 shot through it, i've run the 150 throught for dyno purposes, and the tuner was afraid that it was gonna blow up

hey steve o, should have ran timing gears, its a hard call, ive seen guys run low 9's with stock blocks, and ive seen guys split em right down the middle running high 10's?
so i say..spend the least cash, run that bitch like you rented it, if it breaks build another

Adam has a sweet gear drive that I'm SURE he would give you to fix your problem.
If you're planning on a build down the road don't half ass it now. Slap that bitch back together now and save the coin for the new motor.

throw the stock stuff back until your ready for the R block. Just don't get greedy with the tune, a split block could lead to oil/water under the tires on a pass resulting in a lot more than just a broke block..
FWIW, I went 10.0x on a timing chain and was going 8s on a chain on my R block as well.

not saying you cant haul ass with a timing chain, but timing chains stretch, gears wont
