8.8" Help please!!!
in the process of buying everything for a solid rear-end build and need some advice.
how much power will a set of Moser 28 spline axles hold up to? is it really worth it to upgrade to 31 spline, cause i dont want to use c-clip eliminators nor do i want to hack up my axle tubes to weld in 9" tubes.
just wanting to know before i go and start ordering a differential and hardned axles. i remid you i will be running a full suspension alogn with stick tires. so it would be safe to say that 4k or higher launches will be the normal for the strip time. this is the last thing on my list before i start collecting parts for my forged and aluminum motor build up.

My last car held up to 425 hp on the stock axles for a couple of years with no problems. It was an automatic though. Manual cars will hit harder and take a bigger toll on the axles. It's a crap shoot too. Some of the stockers seem to be stronger than others. If you upgrade, I wouldn't bother with the 28 spline but go to the 31 spline.

You can get 31 spline axles with c clips, I just bought a set from Moser. Just use a Trak Lok from an explorer with the 7/8 pin, and your good to go, easy rebuild. Personally I dont see why people go with other differentials, I have yet to see a diff fail, As for axles, yeah those will go before the diff.

i had an 8.8 with moser 28 spline axles and a modified stock diff. those axles never skipped a beat. back when the car was stick and launching at the track with the juice and 6000rpm plus launches and never had a problem. the stock axles wouldnt hold up to one launch under those conditions(i snapped 3 sets). i took the rear end out of my car recently because i got a killer deal on a complete built moser rear with pro gears, lightened spool , 31 spline axles and c-clip elimn , girdle and its studded. my old rear is in my dads car now.

i really just want to stay away from c-clips, 90% of the cars i have seen with them leak like a mother fucker. i guess i could hang around and wait for a built rear end to show up for a good price, and then just do a complete rear-end swap.
the 9" axles tubes is a better idea to me than the c-clips, just dont want to hack up my housing to do this. but if that is what i have to do to stay away from c-clips then i guess i will.

You have c-clips on your car now. You're talking about not wanting c-clip eliminators which gets rid of the c-clips that holds your axles in. You don't need c-clip eliminators unless you race in some organization that makes you go through tech inspection. Superior or Moser axles are strong and cheap and you can get a 31 spline Ford posi on ebay for $125-150 new, thats where I got mine.

Dont buy c-clip eliminators. Buy 9 inch ends and get them welded on. When you buy your axles buy them with 9 inch bearing presses on. Those never leak. I have seen the eliminator kits crack under load also. We just bought 35 spline axles, gear, spool, 5/8 studs, 9 inch ends, TA cover and Aerospace 4 caliper rear disk and only spent $1800. Well work it to make a rear you can't break.
If you want to stay with what you have, get 33 spline axles. They are damn near the same price and you are buying a new center anyway.
Just for a note: We have taken the 28 spline motorsports axles with c-clips to 1.50 60 foots and 800+ several times with out a break. But I wouldn't try that to many more times.
