Compression or RPM
First, get yourself a game plan. Figure out how fast you want your car to go, how much money you have to spend, and how often you will be driving the car on the street. Then, you will be able to form a plan of attack and start buying parts. Like Derek said, you don't want to be buying parts over and over. Do it right the first time and you will be happy with your results. My car sat for 2 years before I got it running again. Now, I smile every time I fire it up.

Cooling I can only imagine will be a bitch, but I'll get a decent cooling system. Haven't decided on a cam yet, so not sure on that. I guess 11:1 compression and a 6.5k shift point would be a decent goal...

If you can't mix 'em, then which would you say is better to have, you seem like you know your shit about Stangs.

You can run both, but remember high rpms mean more stress on your parts and a stock block will only take so much abuse spinning 6500+ rpms. Having expierienced both high revving power and a solid low/mid range setup I've decided a lower compression setup that makes great low and mid range power is more to my liking for a street car. I did love watching my tach pull hard to the limiter and be begging for more, but the lack of low end that comes with a high reving n/a motor is not something I grew accustomed to.

same thing I ran into (with some extenuating circumstances, like a child being born, etc..) but it sat for a year before I got it going again.. it'll be the same issue with the Fastback.. but will be worth the wait, as I'm sure yours will as well Steve..
Joe, you put the bottle on that thing yet?

Go test out an NA 4v Cobra and then drive your 5.0 right afterwards and decide.. It's amazing how different they feel. I used to drive my friends Vortech'ed 5.0 all the time..and holy shit I would shift at like..1500rpm and be flying.. in my Cobra if I'm not doing at least 4k rpm I'm puttputting around town
Now of course it wont be THAT significant, but youll get a feel for low torque vs revving..
and I just realized you were going to spray, so ignore most of what I said before.. ha.

No bottle yet Derek. I want to get it sorted out N/A before I go that route.
just remember combo is everything and think it thru on which way you want to go. Mid eighties before Fords even had much of a aftermarket in engine design we ran a 289, 12-1, 620 flat tappet crane, 351 windsor heads, twisted torker, 750 Dp, 5:13, nash 5 spd, slicks in Maverick 11:30's in 1/4 na. Back then the chevy guys swore we had nitrous on that lil car. lol. Now with maybe if we had some aftermarket heads who knows maybe 10's back then. oh yes around 7600-8200 for over 5 seasons and then sold the motor to a street racer who ran it for another couple of years. Choose your machine shop carefully and engine builder.
