Actually, I believe its out of a Lincoln...1986...Probably a towncar. ITs a 302 just like the Mustang engines, and everything will be upgraded. I'm throwing on a girdle and the works, but whats so bad about forged parts? I thought they were good, espically for spray?

As long as by 'fun', he doesn't mean ripping apart my blown up engine every few hundred miles, I'm curious to know why forged is bad for NA? Are forged parts much heavier than other types of parts that could stand up to the abuse of what I'll be throwing at them?

And yeah, I'll have a good set of heads. Looking into AFR 185s. One of the Victor intakes to top it off with, depends on the RPMs I want to turn which one I get.

I'd love to see my car rev up like a damn Civic, I really would, but I don't want to be one of those guys on the side of the road with the imprint of a piston from under my hood - thats why I'm feeling like forged everything is a smart choice; but I'm still new at the whole engine building game, so I coudl very well be wrong.
go with forged. you're spraying, so it shouldn't even be a question.

I don't like that idea...

Okay, so forged it is. Why the concern over reving high on a stock block as long as everything else is built?

Any show, why don't you like that idea? I know higher compression makes more power, as does higher RPMs, but it just doesn't seem safe to mix the two.

Don't get it. Blow a lot of gaskets, or are you asking me if I'd like some cookies?

I see, so high compression/high revving = a lot of blown gaskets? What gaskets are we talking here, headgaskets left and right?

If you can't mix 'em, then which would you say is better to have, you seem like you know your shit about Stangs.

There are so many items that need to be answered here...
Unless you've got a sportsman or an R block I'd keep the RPMs around 7k, and that's if the heads you get will support flow #s up to that point and if you get a cam that will make power up to those RPM levels, if not you're just beating on the motor.
Forged aren't a neccessity, but are a good investmentfrom a longevity standpoint. Since your'e spraying, I'd say forged.
Keep in mind that high compression = more heat, so make sure you have the appropriate cooling system in place. Also, what level of compression are we talking, mid 11's, 12's, higher? Gaskets won't be an issue if you have it tuned properly, go with a Cometic gasket (MLS). Get a game plan together of what you want to do as you don't want to spend the money twice if you don't have to.
Beyond that you just need to worry about gear ratio, converter sizing, etc. good luck!

I'm figuring on low 11:1 compression, I guess I should keep the RPMs down to about 6.5k...A victor Jr. and AFR 185s with some new springs will do that nicely, at least the company advertises that. Cooling I can only imagine will be a bitch, but I'll get a decent cooling system. Haven't decided on a cam yet, so not sure on that. I guess 11:1 compression and a 6.5k shift point would be a decent goal...

my motor has stock pistons and it rev's like a mother fucker and hauls ass too. its all about matching your combo, sure id like to have more compression, but if you buy the right parts, it will do everything your looking for. its all in the heads you pick IMO
