Studs are "supposed" to be better... They are a little more complicated to get setup right, so its easy to make a mistake that will have you redoing it again. Personally, I think bolts are fine for most applications. Last time I used studs in a fox body, it made it a PITA to get the heads on and off too.

What do you guys torgue your bolts on alum heads to? I have heard everything from 45 lbd to 90-100 lbs.

its done in steps, the gaskets will have torque load instructions

+1 for studs, i have never blown a headgasket with studs.

I tq mine... center out... 50ft lbs. Then Center out 75ft lbs, then finally 90ftlbs... And I put a dab of oil between the washer, and the head ( keep the nut from binding on the aluminum)...

I go 80lbs on the short bolts and 90lbs on the long bolts, give or take a pound or two.
