96 Explorer Heads Gt40p Or Regular Gt40 Heads???
i have 96 explorer 302 heads are the 96 gt40p or regular gt40 heads???????? they just say gt on them nothing else...any one know the spec on these heads ???valve sizes? runners?? spring rate??? hp gains??? any info would be nice..thanks

They are worth $300, and I'll give you that for them. 
Seriously though, I remember mine clearly said gt40p on the bottum under the intake runners. I don't know if they even made any gt40 heads in 96... I was kinda under the impression the gt40 irons were only on 93-95 cobras.

I didnt know that they were bone stock pulled off of an explorer...
I thought they were freshened and had some work done.. I saw a previous thread of yours where you were asking about power potential and you listed Ported GT40p's and I thought these were the ones you were talking about..

I just bought a set and have them on my car and they work really good but change the valve springs before installing them the explorer springs can handle much in the way of a cam--getting float with a stock cam and 1.72's so change them before putting them on.I'm using the trick Flow Kit from summit ($130) seems to me that they are the same as the FMS springs and are just put together with the correct retainers and locks,shims to make installed height work. good complete kit. but yes the gt-40 irons make good power for cast iron ford heads but your compression will drop with a stock bottom end, think its like 9.02:1 so you will be able to run 89 probably if you dont go nuts with the timing and have an aftermarket box.

yeah i got a second pair i am fully building for my car...i already got them ported and polish ,1.72 roller rockers and i am in the proces of buying bigger springs....thanks for your info on the heads
