Default pilot bearing

Are there any ill-effects of not using a pilot bearing? I just put a d&d 26 spline in my t-56 and it turns out it needs to be machined about 3/8" for the transmission to fit in.

My options:

Take the pilot bearing out

Take the transmission apart again, have someone machine the input shaft

If I can get away with it I'd rather just take the pilot bearing out.. What will happen?

Don't go through all that work and not use a pilot bearing. It will f-up the input shaft and bearing on the trans. Worst case get a brass one and have a machine shop cut it on a lathe to the size you need.
