Default Deleting EGR Function From EEC-IV

I have a spare mass air 8LD EEC-IV. I don't have any emissions equipment anymore. I want to do away entirely with the EGR on my car. Currently it is disconnected and non-functional even when it is. It is my understanding that as long as the EEC-IV is still trying to read the EGR signal there will continue to be detonation after the motor is hot. I have played around with the timing and fuel considerably and can't get rid of the half throttle ticking I have at hot cruising speeds. Can I just have the EEC-IV reprogrammed without having to take the car to a dyno? I've never dynoed the car, but can't afford it either. I'd rather let the car surprise me anyway. This is something I'm just looking into before the really hot weather gets here when the detonation gets worse. Since I have two EEC-IV I don't have to worry about the car being down to get the spare EEC wherever I need to take it if possible.

You can get a chip burned to turn off the EGR. I did the samething to mine and no worries thus far. Call Sam at Coastal Dyno 849-2423.

Chips aren't an option for me, but thanks for the reply.

Thats interesting Helmut, I completely deleted all my EGR and reading this will help me just as you. So what is exactly needed? The EGR delete plate, and that funky resistor pack.

In my case, I'm just leaving the EGR in place (until I get a new upper intake) and buying that resistor and plugging it into the connector that goes to the EGR valve. On my next intake I won't be using the throttle body spacer since the Explorer lower plenum I bought doesn't have the EGR hole in it. I will find out eventually what pieces are used in making that resistor and make my own. I haven't played with electronic stuff like that since I was a kid so i'm rusty on all that stuff. If for some reason it needs to be done I can always cut out my own plate to put over the EGR port on the spacer so I won't be buying the delete kit. It just costs too much, although it is a nice setup.

The down and dirty way is to just unbolt the gray sensor from the EGR, remove the ERG itself and replace it with a blockoff plate. Then push the plunger in on the sensor, wrap it with some electrical tape so it stays in and then tuck it down behind the intake out of sight.
