plastic manifold cracked
My frickin PLASTIC intake manifold cracked on me last night while leaving the track. i had to leave it there overnight, thank god for cronic and his girlfriend, he tried to help me out as much as possible but with everyone gone and left without tools there wasnt much we could do, so they gave me a ride (thanks again!!!). anyways, im asking if anyone here has had this problem on a 4.6L before, and if so how did you fix it and would you be willing to help me out with the change? why the hell would ford design a Plastic manifold??? thats rediculous. thanks in advance.

There was a recall on this years back. I would check with your ford service department to see if it can still be done, but I kind doubt it - if the car is out warranty, I think your screwed.

this has always been a problem with the 4.6 Ford had a recall that went back 7 years for Crown Vic Police cars in service or not but now they are only warranting in service cars. go to www.crownvic.net and serch for plastic intake and see all the talk about it , the CV has been using the 4.6 since 92 the town car has had it since 91 they have had plastic intakes since 95 IIRC.

its the same, i know theyre prone to cracking but i didnt think itd happen while 75 miles from home, went back and got the car today, ill be lookin over my choices, just wondered if anyone has delt with this before.

believe it or not many have used JB weld quite effectively (i'm usually the last one to suggest jb but in this case I've seen it work quite well before.(curious were you spraying it at all?)

also Ford is not the only company that uses a intake made from nylon

I'd try the JB way if it isnt too big and make sure you let the jb set up until its dry completely last thing your want is a JB'd intake valve.

They are very prone to cracking on the front coolant crossover. Is this where yours cracked?
Mine cracked there and I did a tempoary patch with JB weld and it held for a week. That'll work for an emergency fix if you have to drive the car. Just make sure to clean the area very well and rough it up with some sandpaer first.
You're gonna want to go ahead and replace it with one of the new intakes that have an aluminum coolant crossover. Now would be a great time to put a PI intake on it. I understand alot of guys are doing that swap now and seeing really good gains even with NPI heads.
