Default just got a stang

i just bought a 87 lx 4cyl and i would like to know what would be the best thing to get away from this pittyful 88hp i have right now. besides nitrous and a v8 swap. how much would it be for a turbo 2.3 and how hard would it be to swap a 2.3 turbo into my car?

How much money do you think you're gonna have to spend just to keep up with a stock 5.0? You should have saved a grand or 2 more and got a V8. I've seen them as cheap as $1500, I got a 92 GT once for $2000 and it only needed a couple hundred dollars worth of work then it was a really nice car. If you have money to modify your 4 cyl then you should have just bought a V8 car if you're anyway interested in going fast, you're just wasting your time and money with what you have now.

Agreed, unless you can do most of your own work and pick up a used 5.0 engine, tranny and rear.

Hey Guys,

I think what he was asking, was what can he do to improve his car without adding the Juice or a V8?? I don't know, maybe I read it wrong Since I can not be of much help, hopefully Fordified or Plazma will chime in. I would think that a Turbo Coupe or a Mekur would make an excellent doner, if you can find one....

Good Luck

If you are serious about swapping in a 2.3 Turbo motor, I have A LOT of the parts needed and lots of information to go along with them. Contact me if you're interested.

i really wanted to get a 5.0 but i needed a car really fast and i only payed 700 for it and it is pretty damn clean so i am happy with it. i wont have almost any money for like 3 weeks, im still paying for the car, and untill then i will have to look at everything and decide if i wanna go with turboing the 4 or dropping a v8 in it, i just wanted every ones opinions about what they think i should do to have the best combo.

Just think about how dissapointed you are going to be once you dump a bunch of money in this car and are still getting beat by stock 5.0's. If I were you I would save your money and when you have enough, sell the 4cyl and get a decent 89 and up 5.0. Save yourself the frustration and dissapointment of trying to make a 88 hp motor powerful enough to make a 3200 lb car fast. A stock 5.0 on spray can go mid 12's. How much money would it take to make a 4 cyl car go mid 12's? And doing a complete V8 swap is a big pain in the ass unless you go carburated. Take my car for example, 16 lbs of boost, properly designed turbo kit, better head sealing, race fuel, good tune, and whaala 250% more hp. I'm gonna be able to run mid 10's on the stock motor. Add 250% to your 4cly and you might be able to go mid 13's. I had an LX that was stock with a 3.73 gear and an H-pipe with slicks it went 13.20. Just trying to save you from wasting your hard earned money and maybe some frustration, at least you bought a Mustang, that was a good first step.
