Well, it's apparent to me now my tranny doesn't have a whole lot of life left in it. Whinning in all gears and it feels like there's some sort of rough vibration which seems to be coming from the tranny at take off and low rpms.

My options are limited right now and I'm thinking of buying a used t5 and having it rebuilt with world class internals.

Another option may be a c4 tranny, but what all is needed to go from a t5 to an auto?

So what would you do in my situation? I've got about $500 in my wallet right now, but that's not gonna be enough.

Question is, how much would it cost me to buy all new internals for that case. Then I could give you an offer.

I'd need the world class rebuild kit and the gears, thats right around $350 .. what else?

 

Hard parts arent exactly cheap. A rebuild kid is $160 from d&d and all that includes is bearings, synchros, blocker rings and few other small things. That should be all you need, but actual gears arent cheap. Only way you are gonna find what you need is to pull it and let someone look at it. You can always buy user/junkyard one for $500 and have that last you for a while till you come up with something, My tranny guy charges me $150 for the labor for anything I wanna do to mine

See, the only problem with mine is I think the bearings are shot and that's where all the whinning is coming from (still shifts smooth), but I don't want to have to take my car somewhere, pull out the tranny, have it rebuilt and put it back in .. that's a lot of downtime.

The tranny that Donnie has had the 3rd gear blown out, so I'm assuming 4th and 5th are ok so if I got that 1-3 gearset I'd be good to go.

I really havn't had time to call any transmission shops to get pricing and all so I don't even know what kind of money I'm looking at. Any reccomendation on where I'm gonna go or guesses on how much this is going to cost me?

By my old work there was a good tranny shop, ummm I think it was called Jimmy's here in St Pete. They removed, rebuilt and added a shift kit to my frineds 65 Belair in like 2-3 days. Decent Price too.

 

I'd never buy a whole tranny off ebay .. only new products such as the gear set and the rebuild kit.

I'd never buy a transmission from someone I didn't trust.
