EFI 351w into 88 Mustang GT.. HELP!!!!!!!
My God, you can't afford to or don't want to swap to mass air, and now you are going to change everything to swap out a low mileage forged piston 302 for a non forged 351 van motor? Does this really seem logical to you? I'm not even going to comment on what you need, because hopefully you will reconsider. If it was a motor that was worth a shit, sure, but a van motor? You're much better off keeping the 302.

It was a FMS Lightning shortblock with hyper pistons, and a Vortech running 17 lbs. Pretty tame combo except for the boost numbers.

well i was lookin at specs of that motor last night.. its the same motor as the early 80's models EFI f-150's and it produces 346hp and 364tq.. im going to need to get an FMS oil pan, and the stock 302 upper intake will bolt right to the 351 lower intake, so that should at be fine at least until i get a new one.. also, im going to probably use motor mounts from an 87-93 vert. cause they are suppose to work really good.. i think im going to be happy with the 346hp and 364tq for right now until i save a little more money to build up the 351..
BigBadBuick - i took out a loan to get this, so i didnt have the money before, i still havent bought it yet, but i really think i want to.. its a really good platform for me to start with... should keep me happy for a little bit

i dunno, this is what i found when i looked it up..
The EFI 302 Mustang has been around since 1986. That means there are a lot of Mustangs out there that have accumulated some substantial mileage and whether spawned from a dieing motor or just the need for more raw power, there are Mustang owners who either want or need an engine transplant. That's where the folks at SVO have stepped in. You can now get a various number of crate engines from them. Anywhere from a totally stock 1994 - 1995 HO 302 to a 560 HP aluminum headed 460 big block! Because of this fact, we felt it would be more than appropriate to talk about one of Ford Motorsports 351W engine assemblies. In particular, part number (PN#) M-6007-B351. We are going to cover all the components that are neccessary to install this engine in any 1986 through 1993 Fox Bodied Mustang.
First of all, lets take a brief overview of what parts make up this 346 HP engine. SVO starts with a marine short block which consists of a 2-bolt Windsor block, nodular cast iron crankshaft, hypereutectic pistons, and HD truck / marine connecting rods. To the short block they have added a set of cast iron GT-40 cylinder heads, PN# M-6049-L302. These heads have SVO premium stainless steel GT-40 valves, 1.84 intake and 1.54 exhaust. Also, the exhaust seat is hardened for use with unleaded fuels. The camshaft choosen to help create the 346 HP and 364 ft. lbs. of torque has a lift of .491" intake and .509" exhaust, which is PN# M-6250-A335. The duration at .050" valve lift is 220 on the intake and 230 on the exhaust.

You seriously think that is the motor that is in a ford van?!? I quit, have fun, why don't you take the money, burn it and leave the car alone. The end result will be you still have a good running driving car, and you're out the money. The other way, you're out the money and you have a piece of shit

I hope you remember I have actually tried to help, but every time I make a suggestion I am greeted by why? why? why? and everything I say is second guessed by everyone. I guess this is to be expected on a public forum, that's why I usually try to stay out of these tech forums, I have my way to do things and others have theirs. I have never received a satisfactory answer to a tech question I have asked, and I have to deal with second guessing when I try to help someone. To take a van 351 and put it in your car makes absolutely no sense at all, the motor weighs more, makes no more power, and despite what you may think, very little will be able to be reused. I am not going to answer your installation questions, I am going to tell you not to do it. It's not in my nature to keep my mouth shut while someone makes a mistake, or worse yet, help them make that mistake, sorry.
