Default Keeping cool...

Ok guys,

With the new motor, A/C, and traffic, I watch the temps rise to a point that I feel uncomfortable with the aluminum heads. (220 and keeps climbing if I let it) I replaced the radiator a few years ago, but I just don't think that a stock unit can handle the extra cubes. So, I am looking to upgrade my current radiator with something else. I was looking at the catalogs and would like some opinions.

Be Cool, Fluidyne, Griffin, ??? Also 1 or 1.25 tubes? The one catalog says that 1 is good for up to 400hp and 1.25 are good to 600hp? Also thinking about adding a little Red Line Wetter than Wet? Is it worth it have you used it?

Discuss Please...

I have always had great luck with the pep boys/advance auto modine 3 core brass/copper that runs about $100-$125.

Do you own a Torch Red FRC and tremble every time you drive under I75 on Hwy 60 and look in your rearview mirror? If so you are suffering from what is known as Cobraphobia.

I don't think it's sticking. I just replace the thermostat when I rebuilt the motor. I put a 180 in it and it seems fine during normal driving. I will see it climb a little in traffic, but it doesn't get above 210. It kind of sits there until I can get moving and then it goes back down. However, if I am sitting in traffic and hit the AC, it just starts climbing. I can get about 5 to 10 minutes and then it gets around 210 and continues to rise. I let it go one day and after it hit 225, I pulled off and let the car cool down. I can swap out the thermostat, it is easy enough. I was even thinking about installing an electric fan on a switch, that I can flip on while I am sitting in traffic. However, I thought that the 347 was the cause and the radiator just isn't sufficient

Summit "Northern" aluminum radiator seems to be what people are liking as far as good AND cheap.
I think they are lik $170-$180

+1

My car also runs cooler with a 60/40 ratio.

The afco radiators are pretty decent and really inexpensive for being an aluminum. The universal one that i'm looking at for my car is about 180. Thats a good bit cheaper then the other places I looked.

I have a Fluidyne....I remember it being expensive as fuck but I've never had any issues with it running too hot. I also have aluminum heads...

First, thanks for all the input!! I do appreciate it.
Second, I have looked at a few of them, but I did not know about the Pep Boys Modine.

The aluminum one I found from Summit was $299.
The Griffen was $160. (22x19)
Be Cool. $575 and I have not heard of anyone who bought this?
AFCO appeared to be a univeral fit. (I would perfer to get one that made for the Stang.)
Fluidyne, $349. I have a friend who said the Fluidyne is the way to go. He put one in his 95 and he said he never had problems after that. However, I thought I read where someone bought one and it leaked from the factory?? However, I am old and get confused pretty easily!!

Any ways, I am thinking that with what ever radiator I go with, I will run the mixture of 60/40 and some of the water wetter.
