So do I put in a automatic ?
Behind cars with power the c-4 tends to flare between the 2nd and 3rd gear shifts. I don't think Mike's has the problem, but he's making around 500rwhp, you're looking at substantially more. I was making that with mine and it flared about 200rpm with my combo. Joe could probably speak more to the issue as well.

Its a design element of the C4. Basically the way the planetaries and bands are operated, it disengages 2nd before applying 3rd. This causes the engine to flare between the 2-3 shift. On high HP cars, once 3rd is engaged, its possible that the motor will burn up high gear because its at a higher RPM than the tranny. Think of it as dragging the clutch every time you shift into high gear. High gear is tough on any auto because of the loads, and the way the C4 shifts isn't any better. Because its inherent in the way the tranny is designed, it can't be overcome.
Their is no dought that with the right converter you will be faster.,i ran around with 456 gears and a 4,500 converter with a auto, for 10years.,in the end i put 373 gears in which helped alot.,. i was not on boost but had a very healthy car.,you will love the track improvement., it will fly.,with boost i do think its a must having a auto.,one thing to add is that a turbo 400 with a converter is a heavy beast, nothing like your stick, you will need to go with a stought rear which im sure you probably allready done,i just think it will become a trailer queen in the end., seems that after all the hp, once you go auto it will be the next step., one thing is for sure and that is you can always switch back!

I'd say if you aren't worried about all out speed to stay with a stick. You have to remember the fastest car that is normaly shifted is in the 8's. If they can use a real shift patern and make their tranny survive then I see no reason you can't.
The stick keeps the car more streetable and that can be alot of fun.
Not sure why you can't leave in boost though? Maybe it's a v-8 thing but with a 2 step u should be able to boost in a stick car. Hell we have a 2.3t guy running in the 10's with a t-5 he leaves the line with 10 psi give or take.

The tranny's of the cars running into the 8's are $10k if not more.
I can not leave on boost because I chose not to beat on the motor with a two step since it is at the ragged edge of breaking the way it is.
A auto / boosted car will always do better since the car never comes off of boost which is what happens when shifting a manual car.
Looks like I am going the auto route soon anyway.
