Tossing Around the Idea
Of perhaps putting the SVO up for sale. Absolutely love the car to death, but this weekend realized how stupid it was of me to purchase it as a daily driver. Now that I was really forced to buy something new, the money to spend on the SVO really isn't there so it is just going to sit idle in the driveway...not the way an SVO should spend its life
. Can't afford to insure both the xB and the SVO...so if something were to be stolen off the SVO or if it were even stolen I'd be fucked. Plus no insurance means no driving the SVO...not a good thing for that car.
Nothing really wrong with the car, just needs little odds and ends (enough to drive me fucking crazy).

How do you buy one of those ugly xB's over anything Ford? I would rather ride out in a freestar than one of those things.
To each their own I guess

Alan,
You are a Mustang guy at heart. And like most, you suffer the love/hate relationship. (When it's new it's not fast enough and must be modded, but when it's modded to your liking, it's just not suitable as a daily driver.) Right now, you're somewhere in between because the car is streetable but still old and tempermental.
If you ditch the SVO, you'll never be happy with just the Xb. If I were in your position, I'd take the Xb back to the dealer (you have like 3 days I think?) and pick up something a less expensive but still reliable as a daily driver. Then you should be able to afford to keep the SVO and mod it while you still have reliable transportation to/from work. It's the only way you'll ever satisfy both sides of the addiction.

The reason I went with a new car is never having to worry about it. For 7yrs/100k miles I'm taken care of...no major costs out of my pocket. Heck, I even get lifetime tires on the car. This is a car I can just drive and not have have the nagging feeling in the back of my mind that if something were to break...I'm fucked. Insurance on the xB was actually cheaper than a 10+ year old Civic.
I'm realizing now purchasing the SVO was a bad idea for this stage in my life. While overall it is a good car, it just requires way too much time/attention/money than I can give right now. I'd actually rather see it in a good home where I know it won't be neglected...because I know I will neglect that car. Trying to avoid turning it into the typical SVO you see in the Autotrader (a rusted out shitbox that hasn't been driven in years). That car is too good to just sit idle on my driveway.

Leonard, a new car doesn't get much less expensive than 14k unless you voyage over into Daewoo territory *shudder*.
Realistically, the decision is sound. Later on after a promotion of something and extra fundage is laying around, a project car would be good. Unfortunately, I know all too well what it is like driving around in a 12 year old car, much less a car that is older than most people who post in FFA. Really, the SVO is too rare to hack up and use as a race car or let sit for eons. I dunno, whatver path you choose to take, I don't mind turning wrenches with ya on it.
Well I just put it up in the classifieds. We shall see what happens. As I said, I'd rather see it well taken care of by someone else. I know I won't have the time, money, or energy to keep on top of that car.

The sad part is that I know I have the drive to keep it up for you at no charge (well...there is beer), but not the time. I wish I could adopt it, but it is a very rare car that I would honestly feel bad about ripping apart to make it into what you want it to be. The color/option combo is more rare than every Cobra but the Cobra R. If you get picky, the white 86 SVO w/o sunroof is one of 220 +/- produced. Of those, how many do you think are left?
But alas, once the SVO is gone, we can break bolts in unison on the 240. If I find a 240 coupe shell, it is on.
