Default Ford reliablity

Hi,

thinking of buying a 95-97 Ford Mustang in a few months.
Most likely the v6 because of insurance and gas.
Anyways, ive owned 3 imports and ive nothin but problems with most of them.
I told a few people that im thinking of goin Ford and they laughed and said all you are going to have to trouble.
But i talked to a few other people and they said their family has owned all Ford's and has had no major problems with them.
What do you guys think? Are these year mustangs any good?
I would think even if parts broke that they would be very inexpensive to fix because there are so many of them.

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks

A friend of mine beat the absolute living piss out of his 01 3.8 and it still ran fine. It definately depends on the prior owner of the car in question though, if it was taken care of ... it should be quite reliable.

In the past 2+ years with my 5.0 I had to replace a starter, alternator, and clutch quadrant .. that's it. The starter and the alternator costed me about 100 bucks and I had someone I knew do the clutch quadrant for me which was around 200. So it has costed me $300 in maintenance for a 17 year old 120,000 mile engine in the past 2 years/20,000 miles.

Hope my rambling helped

first off 94-98 are the same bodystyle...... and the 94-95's have headgasket problems, well the stock headgasket anyway , so check that out if you get a 94-95........

i would get a 5 speed , most manual trannies have far less problems than automatics (in any brand car) if shifted properly......

besides that, it depends how bad you beat the car, a v6 stang driven normally should hold up well, but if you try to modify it and or race it beat on it, expect some stuff to give up ..........

Ive had some imports including honda, nissan and toyota and had some problems and it was always expensive parts and hard to work on. Then i got my ford and in 2 years have only had an alternator go, i like both though but you just got to maintain what you have.

[QUOTE]
The only really problems they ever had with 3.8s of those years was the headgaskets, and there was a TSB for that. There should be a sticker on your car under the hood saying it was in for the recall.

Ya ive heard that too. Plus my next door neighbor has had 2 and they have both blown a headgaskit.

Aslong as you get a 96+ V6 you should be fine. But let me tell you, I got about 210-250 miles/tank. Thats just normal street driving. My friend with a 98 Cobra has 4.56 gears in it and got better gas milage then I did. Ask your inc. company about rates and what not before you buy.
