If you're set on the 3.8 I can give first hand knowledge that they are reliable. My mom had a 94 back when I was in high school and it had ZERO problems until about 95K when the frigging head gasket decided it did not want to function correctly anymore.

Ill say this, i had a 1995 V6 stang for 1 year and 20,000 miles NO PROBLEMS... Bougt a 1999 V6 stang used with 1800 miles, I doubt this site has space enough to explain what ive gone through trying to get this car fixed, UNDER WARRENTY MIND YOU. The car would Die when i slowed down, the car wouldnt start, it was shimmy shake and smoke, its had 3 HEC Gauge CLusters, 5 fuel Pumps,5 Trannsmisions, 4 Rearends, In the beginning it STAYED AT THE DEALER an average of 2 weeks out of every month for the first two Years... My Service manager lied to FORD Dispute Settlement Buero and told them i modded the hell out of it with everything under the sun, ITS STOCK AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN minus a few things ive done this year, Only thing modded back then was the Wheels i have FMS Cobra R wheels 17x9's sizeup from 15 inch V6 POS's. I would take it in and tell them the problem, 5 too 7 days later they call say its fixed get there they hand me the work papers and it says " NO PROBLEM FOUND NORMAL OPERATION" normal operation to have the engine die on the freeway???? and not start for 20 minutes.
Normal for the gas gauge to say full one minute and E the next
Normal for a brand new car with less then 10k miles to smoke
Normal for the clutch to slip and not go in gear
Normal for the windows and locks not to work
Normal for the Ebrake to release and disengage( wich was later recalled by ford, i was called a lier till the recall)
Normal for keyless entery system to pop my trunk on its own
Normal for my lights to dim out and then the engine to die along with the lights ( real nice on a curvy road at night )
Normal for the car not coming with keys,door off alightment,paint cracking,missing parts such as pieces of the headlight mouting panle.
While installing GT Fags i took off the front bumper and found welding gloves stuffed INSIDE THE FRONT BUMPER Beams that the foam is attached too...
List goes on and on and NO it wasnt a electrical issue, it wasnt one thing causing this, No it wasnt Abused or mistreated...
It was TOLD TO US that the car was NEW, NOT TITLED but a DEMO car transfered to there dealership from another!
It was in fact USED, TITLED ONCE and has 3 Carfax Vehicle reports wich means, 1st owner title, Unknown report, and My title...
The dealership LIED i bought a lemon wrecked car! My Service manager lied to FORD to save his and his boss's ASS's!
Gave my mom 472 dollars for my 96 mustang! While we owed 8000! Told he verbally she was getting like 5 or 6grand trade in.
My mother at the time was HELPING ME OUT, trying to do what she knew i DID NOT deserve, that was buy me another car and trust me to pay... I had Just TOTALLED her 98 Monte Carlo in a roll over it was deamed MY FAULT so our insurence payed out!
I had just gotten out of JAIL, and was in my first few weeks of sobriaty. She was a single mother of a 17 year old bastard!
She was also unknowingly in the beginning months of cancer!
She listened to the salesmen, thought she was getting a GOOD deal, thought it was a new car with a few miles so she was getting it cheaper, told it was NEW.
As the $$Money$$ numbers were laid out she paniced and rushed through the final steps of purchase a little. Trusted me to make the payment, wanted me to have a reliable car...
i was stuck in a v6 cause i flipped the monte carlo.
But in the end i am still payed 32,000+ for this car ( 7500 from my old car) 72 months of 413.69 a month plus insurence!
for a wrecked car that was covered up by the dealer, so noone would be honest and say, its wrecked, it has issues or anything!
how many of us have a mom that would buy her son a 32 grand car when i didnt have a job, weather they relized the cost or problems ahead of time?
So BEWARE of what you buy, not all stangs are bad even the V6's. RUN A CARFAX NO MATTER WHAT! ive still not gotten to run my VIN on carfax cause my mom is scared to find out the truth...
So if any of u accually read all this and have CARFAX Unlimited lookup, Please run my VIN and conntact me its 1FAFP404XF167202 its a 1999 Ford Mustang V6 Coupe.

94-95 has the 5.0 motor. so thats reliable. and not too bad on gas. so ya could still go that route. i know u didnt say it, but im jus elaborating, dont get a 94. had alot of friends with them and with the new body style seemed to have alot of bugs. damn, that's 10 years ago already. im gettin old.
