I just bought a probe gt and am pleased with her performance thus far. i am wondering if anyone knows anything about the probe i need to know, i.e.- what should i replace before it causes me big problems later on?

 

Get a new car. I saw so many come in with high miles that were just falling apart. They weren't the greatest vehicle Ford ever made.

 

do a full tune up on it. fuel filter,air filter,ect.

 

Being that the motor is made by Mazda, the motor is strong But the rest of the car usually has problems. Rear calipers seizing up, motor mounts go, valve cover gaskets, power steering leaks, etc etc etc. Make sure you get the timing belt changed if you don't know for sure when it was last changed. So you know, the drivetrain of your car is shared with the V6 models of the Mazda 626 and the Mazda MX-6. I love the engine, hate the rest.

 

my mom used to have a 93 probe gt, car spent more time in the shop then it did in our driveway lol.. first ur master cylinder will go, then like ryde or die said the rear calipers will seize up, then when u replace those the master cylinder will go again, and my moms was an automatic, so the tranny kept losing OD so she kept having to have the little rubber clutches inside the tranny replaced.. its a mess.. shoulda went with a stang!!! lol

Don't listen to the Ford mullets, they don't like it if it's not a Mustang Probes are decent cars, can be quick too. Lots of mods to be had with those engines.

 

If you do have problems, go over to see Jeff at Maztech. Hes very fair and honest and gets stuff done quickly.
