Just got a Lightning
i think they fixed the problem in 02. From what Rich D told me, the problem is caused by the lack of threads for the plugs in the heads. Over time they back out and eventually launch threw the head due to compression force. in 02 they added more threads and the problem has been solved, aparently.
Id still put some NGK's in there if your gonna install a pulley.

All mods have repurcussions. Each person needs to weigh risk vs. gain on what they want out of their vehicle. Ford knows there is a problem with spark plugs being blown out on these trucks. Its happened to hundreds of trucks, modified and non modified, on every Lightning board/club out there. Do some research and you'll see how many its happening to. Its obviously a problem and its not just happening to trucks that are modified. Yes there are ways to prevent it - but that doesn't make it any less of a problem or flawed design by Ford.
Since you seem to know so much, why don't you share your source of infinite wisdom about the Ligthning with us?

hey 03 Mach 1, if you have an issue why not pm the guy instead of ruining someone's post......anyways
03wrxkid, get the ngk tr6-'s or the denso IT-22's,. the ngk's can be found online or @ AE engineering, depending on your boost levels will determine your gap, I would run a .035 gap and you should be fine

I am the guy 03 Mach 1 is talking about.
1) Have fun trashing your motor with that 6lb lower, nothing over 4lbs should be installed on a truck you want to keep for awhile.
and
2) The threads in the L heads were not fixed until 03, they went from 3 to 7 threads, alot of plugs fly from extra pressure due to pullies and people improperly changing there own plugs.
A good plug for stock to 4lbs is NGK BR7EF's (2 range colder),
gapped to (.036 - .03
Good Day!

Okay - I was a tad sarcastic in my response but I wasn't being an asshole. If you can't handle sarcasm or get your panties in a bunch when someone disputes what you say - you probably shouldn't visit this site. Its just annoying that so many people have a problem with the plugs getting blown out and you say its not a problem at all. Its not just happening on LIghtning motors, but 5.4 n/a's as well and several of the L's that have had it happen have zero mods.
I don't claim to know it all and really don't give 2 shits about who tampablack99 is....but I know this is a problem on these motors regardless of what anyone says. Its also annoying when you dismiss people's posts by saying you know someone who knows this or that....then they come on and post and don't even really explain who/why/what they are or why they know what they know and post something most of us already know and could easily find out with a google search.
Your response sounded like you accused everyone here of not "knowing what's up".
Again, not trying to flame a war here - just posting why I said what I said. Looking at this objectively, I do agree that the 6lb lower is probably too much. Running too much boost on the Eaton unported will not be effective and cause it to heat soak.
Now let's get back on topic and help this guy with his truck.
