Default whats with needing 550rwhp to get 12's ????

this post isn't directed towards anyone or any post but,

it seems like there have been alot of people posting about wanting to run 12's or 11's and it seems as though they all have this crazy amount of HP in mind to run those times......

everyone wants to run a SC or turbo or nawz, or have some crazy 800hp setup to run 12's or 11's..........

i dont understand this, a properly set up mutang can run low 12's high 11's with about 320ish RWHP on slicks........

i understand a street car not wanting to run slicks, but if your worried about track times why have a street car?

just wondering where everyone seems to be coming with this idea of needing to have tons of HP to run a decent quarter mile time.............

i'm not stabbing at anyone, just wondering why some people mix the whole street or strip car thing up, and or think a car has to have 500hp to run 11's.........

if you want a fast street car, dont worry about how it does on the track or what times it runs if it isnt set up for the track, and if you have a fast track car don't bitch about how it doesnt handle well on the street.........

just my .02 !!!!!!!!

I did the same thing on my old '92 GT before we went hog wild with it.

NOS DRY 150 shot (albiet at about 1150 psi bottle pressure )
K&N Filter
H-pipe (no such thing as X pipe back then)

12.60 @ 106mph at what is now BMP running cheap ass 255/50/16 radial tires....

5spd of course

I don't understand it either. I think people have a Supra mentality to run 12's. But their forgetting traction. I agree with you. Hell, I only have 301rwhp and ran mid 12's. No power adder, stock heads, cams, and intake. IMO I think it's more impressive to run a low et with a low mph than to run the same et with some outrageous mph. BORING. Sorry but 2.0 60fts aren't for me.

Hell..with 550-570 rwhp I was running 10.7s at 127-130 mph. I thought that pretty much sucked ass. I would be angry if I was running 12s.

I did run an 11.9 at 133 mph a few months ago on street tires..lol

nearly everyone spends all their cash on motor parts to make power and they forget about the suspension, thats why all the huge HP numbers and crapy E.T.s. Also I think the import "Dyno Queen" mentality is contagious, everybody wants to impress people with a big ole dyno pull. 550 HP is impressive but new controll arms ar mundane.

Guns thats part of it. But again it depends on what your looking to do. Those high HP street cars have ALL the fun on Sat night. With or without suspension. Look at Juiced262 (dan). I think he has had more fun and put a woopin on just about everyone locally in the past 6 or 8 months. 600 rwhp , 2.73 rear gears..and not a lick of suspension..lol. But I dont think he has broken into the 11s at the track....he has just..broken

But he has fun...and his car is feared.

Well an et isn't everything either. Low ET's with low MPH is definitely a sign a well set up car and good driver combo however. The place where having all that power is nice is when you aren't racing, aren't racing from a stop or just want to have enough grunt to pass anything, anytime.

That's all relative of course and everyone has different "requirements" for their vehicle. I enjoy having slightly more power than whatever suspsension I have can handle traction wise. To me it makes the car "fun" to drive.

You take two cars.. one that traps 110 and one that traps 130...MOST of the time once you are rolling even 10mph the car that traps 130 is going to walk away from the car that traps 110.

So having the HP to trap high mph is a nice luxury.

Oh... and I don't fear Dan's car (gotta stir the pot!)
