Default radio and light problem

does anyone know what they think is wrong? my fuse that runs the radio and dome light blows everytime i change it. dont disconnect the batrtery, blow, disconnect the battery, blows. put in a higher amp fuse, blows.

is it a short somewhere? tried a diff. radio, my old cassette player to see if it blows it, sure enough. I have a friend who has a talon, same damn problem. is it grounded out somewhere? a short somewhere? any help would be greatly appreciated.

I put in a 94/95 electric fan, and it was all fine for a month. this has been going on for 6 months, and i need music.

the fan is hooked up to a toggle switch, just to let you guys know.

That's a bigger problem than a ground somewhere. Sounds like you got a hot wire crossed somewhere. You shouldn't have to have a higher amp fuse in there. Check the routing to where that wire comes from, it's not a constant 12v lead. Do you have the old fan wires crossed or touching? Try unplugging the old fan fuse if you don't have it hooked up to anything and see what that does. The fan fuse is on a relay block I believe and the wire may be crossed there, just a suggestion.

IMO you definatly have a cut wire somewhere. It could also be a bad switch. Id pull the radio and start there, inspect all the wires then check all the switches on that circuit. It could be a door pin switch, one of the int lights or just a bare wire that has been rubbing up against somthing and finally wore through.

For me it was the wire that powers the mirror on the passenger side sun visor. it had a splice in it and was shorting out on the metal L that the visor was mounted to.

It did the same thing you mentioned, put a fuse in poof! disconnect the batt put a fuse in and hook the batt back up and poof! I couldnt get a fuse to last 5 sec and it only took me a month to find

Good Luck man, electrical problems can be a nightmare.

Hehe 100$ for an hour worth of diagnosis. I think it's funny when people give up on electrical before they even start and end up paying someone mad money to connect a wire together or tape off one =p.

Do you have a built-in amp on your car btw?

just an old alpine cd player. nothing else. my wiring has always been bad. bunch of stuff: the radio, wipers work only on high, replaced all door pins except for trunk because they were bad, it goes on and on. AVE had a hell of a time installing my alarm because of it.

I have had a bunch of people think about it, and play with it, still to no avail. you have any suggestions?

the relay on the fan is ok. nothing crossed up there. goes straight to the toggle switch. nothing crossed up.

Do you know what your talking about? an hour? Sorry but i dont have all this time to go under the dash and under the hood looking for a crossed wire or whatever, and it took them a day to go through it all and find it. There are just some things like electrical problems and tranny problems that i will leave to the experts that do it everyday, rather then me wasting a bunch of time, getting nothing solved, and maybe even making it worse.

This is true, in my auto class at school, all the guys run every time there's a car with electrical problems. I go and do it. I'll never learn if I don't. But if you would rather not learn and just get it fixed by all means ...So any progress on finding the problem yet black91gt?

My GF was having lots of issues with hers because her built-in amp kept on shorting everything out. If you look behind the stereo on the floor, in a rack. There should be a little box that's a wannabe amp. If it's there, that very well may be your problem. I rewired a hot wire from the radio fuse and did a reg ground and unplugged the amp and hooked up some new speaker wires to her cd-player instead of going through the amp.
