Default New tranny in, big problems =/

Well if any of you have been following me I swapped an automatic with a manual in my Escort. We got everything working right, had to order new shift bushing as the old ones were not the right ones for the shift linkage somehow.

My brother (a mechanic) helped me out on the project. After we were done, I find out he neglected to tell me that he drained the fluid in it.

I drove it 28 miles and "whizzz pop" It got stuck in between 5th and neutral out of nowhere. I'm assuming it got too hot. I set on the side of the road a while and started it up pulled it out of gear then continued to drive to st pete another 30 miles.

When I get to st pete and downshift off the highway into second it grinded then went in like the synchro was bad. Downshifted into first, same thing. Then I shifted into second from first, same noise. All the other gears were fine all the way to the parts store where I was buying a new shift knob.

I get back to the GF's house and try and figure out why it did that. Sat around a while and said hey, wonder if the fluid is just low.

So I stuck my finger in the fill plug, couldn't feel anything.
Went to the parts store in the GF's stang. But 2 quarts of gear oil and a flex tube. Put the 2 quarts in, still couldn't feel anything. So we went and bought another quart, put almost another quart in before it started coming out the fill plug.

I was like hmm wonder how much this tranny takes. I looked it up and it takes 2.83 quarts. That f-in tranny was BONE DRY.
So I'm pretty sure the brand new tranny I put in already burnt out first and second synchros. Anyone else concur that read this far? lol

Man that sucks. I'm sure it could of been worse though. Imagine if you were beating on it ... yikes. It sounds like the syncros r done, but maybe not.

lol next tranny swap, I'm either paying someone else to do it, or doing it at school on a lift instead of in the driveway. I gotta start scouting some copher's for one. I would put a performance tranny in but they want almost 3grand for one, and running on a stock engine there would be no point in putting 3k into an engine from a company that has no good references other than internet peoples

On another note, I got the GF's Mustang all fixed up this weekend. She couldn't drive it to school because the driver door wouldnt lock and the passenger door wouldn't even open. Found out the driver door power lock actuator was bad and stuck open, so I pulled that out for now. And the passenger side door lock was just bent so I pulled the panel off from the inside and fixed her up. Fixed her tail lights (fuse) and her dash lights (fuse). She needs a new set of tires hopefully coming soon and a power steering/alternator bracket, which is cracked.

Lock or no lock, anyone who knows what they are doing with a long phillips headed screwdriver can get into a Fox body w/o breaking anything or leaving any signs of entry within a matter of seconds. Get her an alarm.
