Not sure much about honda motors. Not sure if a B-18 has V-Tec or not. The main topic you should be concerned with is the compression of the motor. I believe V-Tec motors are somewhat high compression which wouldn't be the best for Turbo. But then again the only way to have a quick honda is to have it gutted put it in the lightest model available, and turbo it.

First off, I think we have another one of those classic polls that make absolutely no sense up there. The only poll option that makes sense is the one I voted for, not one that he was responsible for.

There are various types of b18's, which is in the same family as the b16, the rare b17, and the b20 from the old crv. The b16 was not available non-vtec as far as I know. The b17 was only offered in one or two years of the integra, and is similar to a b16, just a bit larger in displacement. The b18 is in integras, the b18ax and b18bx (x being a number) are non-vtec I believe, and the b18c1/b18c5 are the vtec versions, the c1 is the gsr engine with something like 170 hp and the c5 is the type-r version with 195. The b20 is non-vtec only and is stretching the b-series engine design iirc, it's been a long time since I read up on honda stuff, but I remember debates concerning the advantages of the b18 and b20 for lsvtec/crvtec conversion, and I think I remember reading something about the b20 having too little space between the cylinders, some sort of strange design to it or something. There are two versions of the second b20 (they had one in the old prelude that wasn't really related and was inferior) which put out different hp amounts. All of these codes are usdm, jdm engine codes don't have the numbers at the end, or something, I'm reaching into half forgotten knowledge here.

Definitely a question for honda tech people who have up-to-date, accurate info and personal experience with the subject.

Alright, I'll put in my .02.

Go with a dedicated VTEC block as they have oil squirters for the pistons and will last longer under any circumstances. This includes the b16, b18c and b18c5. JMHO. Of course, there are always folks out there who have had boosted and n/a LSVTEC and CRVTEC motors last a long time. Build it once, build it right.
