If the tranny locks you out of a gear a Metro could win the race.

yeP!
That is my friend who is posting(Norman)
But his friend is the one who owns the FHP Stang and I heard that he thought it had 400 + hp .
Well for starters that would be very little chance for these reasons.
Who would be letting go of a 400 hp FHP coupe?
Who the hell modded that stock beast? lol
Damn, and you say that is streetable and gas good COP gas milage? lol

yea those about cover it up on why its not 400 hp.

I'd venture a guess of slightly above stock fox 5.0 HP.
maybe 250 if ure a lucky bastard, who knows....

I wasn't aware they stopped making Cobra's .........
I know that in 00 they didn't make one, so they made the R.
but other than that, why skip a year????
I am guessing 02 is just as normal as 01 and 99....

There was no publically announced 02 Cobra.

i dunno if that FHP 5.0 would get walked or anything though guys, it will probably turn a low 14, it's light as a feather man, im assuming it's a notchback because i think all of the FHP stangs were, 2800lbs and around 230hp ... so around 200 at the wheels isnt gonna get walked bad by a stock cobra (except 03).

It has a Hurst shifter and a SuperChip, dunno if it is going to see that much power at the wheels. If the motor was absolutely fresh, 170-190 (depending on transmission) would be spot on. Odds are, an 88 is going to have more than a few hard miles on it, so I would expect less. Additionally, unless the car was modified after the fact by a previous owner, it is not going to have anything better than a 3.27 gear in it. Honestly, I have driven more than my fair share of Mustangs that are this car's splitting image (and more modified than that) and they are unimpressive. They might "feel" fast, but 15 second slips are not all that wonderful. Unless he has some serious modifications (heads, cam, intake, longtubes, MAF conversion, injectors, ect ect), he is not going to be taking any Cobras out any time soon.

But hey, on the street, anything can happen. It's easy to turn a 11 second Viper into a 14 second Honda bait snake (until the Viper hooks up that is).

The only mods done to a FHP notch that will make it faster than the average notch is the holes drilled into the dash and the trunk. They will make it lighter. (Of course, the extra reinforcing in the floor pan behind the seat will cancel that out. In other words, FHP cars are nothing special...unless you just wanna say your car was a cop car in a former life. (Works for Corey)

Oh and chips on basicly stock cars usually produce next to nothing as far as noticable power increases.

Ford Never made an 02 Cobra. After all the problems they had in 01 with the lack of power and cars not running like they should, I assume they skipped 02 to focus on the development of the new 03 Cobra.
