From what I hear, there are some 300+ hp cars only running low 15's in the quatermile. That is either a lack of traction, or lack of driver skill. I'm thinking its the later.

There were two things about that testing:

1. They did not run drag radials. I am sure there were some traction issues.

2. The HP claims went unverified.

Of course, the caption under the last picture summed it all up. The problem faced by these tuners is that a $56,000 Z06 runs the same course 2 seconds faster. I'm sure the Cobra would have done the same thing.

Don't all the import guys say it's not just about going fast in a straight line. I guess it's about spending a lot of money to make a Honda go slower around the turns too.

Why did they opt for the 4 door civic, it's heavier?
Who in real life is going to buy a brand new car and swap out the motor with 0 miles on it?

God I hate it when people try to tell me they're building up an import cause it's cheaper

They had the deal on Car & Driver TV. They had to change the format of one part of the competition becuase the cars runnning it weren't capable of doing it. They had a road course set up that the cars were supposed to negotiate and then on exit from there they were supposed to shoot through turns 4 and 3 and hit 150 mph down the back stretch of California Motor Speedway. They moved that down to 130 mph. There was one car, a Volkswagen that didn't even hit 130. I am sure he got great HP per litre while being slower than my big ineficeint V8 car.

Based on the info in the article, the V8 DID win, by 2 seconds.

Bah, like I need 300 hp to run 15's. I got that shit handled with half that. Oh wait, I should be in the sub 14 second zone.

In defense of my car (not the ones in that article), I built mine for cornering. If I was to build it for drag, I would remove the lateral interior bracing, swap the rear disks out for lighter drums, remove the autocross tires (and install slicks), get a new drag only k-member w/heim joints and run some spray. My car is decently quick in a straight line and that is nice and all, but not what I truely enjoy the car for.

Mustangs can be built for cornering.
Hondas can be sucessfully built for straight line.
Cut the mullet of ignorance, guys.
