tailpipes
does anyone know florida's legal definition of a tailpipe? Like the length? Is there such a thing?
Fucking FHP has nothing better to do than give me a ticket for no tailpipes on my 96 GT. I've never ran tailpipes on any of my MANY mustangs. Hell, the car is the quietest mustang i've ever owned seeing as how it still has the 6, YES 6, factory converters on it!
watch out if you're not running tailpipes! Your car is dangerous!
FUCK YOU FHP!

I've had them "mention" it to me. Of course that was when they said I had modified my exhaust by making it dual...on a 5.0 Mustang.
Then when they said I had modified my fenders, I resigned myself to the act that I was screwed.
(Yes, I said "FENDERS"

^my car is quieter than a lot of new cars. Stock manifolds, stock mid pipe with 6 converters into dual 2 chamber flows, cut off after the mufflers. Theres still a couple of inches after the muffler. He listed 2 statutes. 316.610(1) is the ticket violation, then he put 316.272 in the comments box.
Just seems like a total BS ticket. I wasn't doing anything to provoke him. Fucking glorified meter-maid...
@zman. Stock fox GTs tailpipes ended before the rear bumper, so that makes them illegal too? Just saying...

Its supposed exit 6" passed the cabin of the vehicle. As long as it exits beyond the doors your legal. I'm not 100% sure on the legality of dumped exhaust before the axle. I've run it that way for years and with 2 chamber flow masters and never really got hassled.
But with the way the economy is right now you can expect the police to be handing out stupid tickets for just about anything right now in order for them to fund their needs.
The police are stroking as many tickets as they can to fund their police toys. More tickets = new cruisers, swat toys, rifles, tasers,.. things like tht in general are funded from tickets.
There is no set quota for handing out tickets,.. thats a myth. But,.. at the end of the month you dont want to be the one with the least amount of tickets handed out. My wifes says its like comparing penis sizes at the end of the month.
