need a tailpipe

 

Turn down pipes legally constitute tail pipes. No different than installing 50 state legal side pipes. The noise level is usually at the discretion of the officer. This is coming from my wife who was a LEO for 12 yrs and a Det. for 8.

 

so is my wife and as stated (interpertation), turn downs can be looked as a modified exhaust, which is illegal. heck even a Flowmaster muffler can be deemed illegal. Hurst whether your wife or mine, even my best friend who retired from the SO 25 years also a car nut like you and me read this and said its all on the depending officer as he sees fit to understand that portion of the law. Heck even all the fart cans are illegal as they are not original exhaust mufflers.

 

another section:a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle or any other noise-abatement device of a motor vehicle operated or to be operated upon the highways of this state in such a manner that the noise emitted by the motor vehicle is above that emitted by the vehicle as originally manufactured.

(b) No person shall operate a motor vehicle upon the highways of the state with an exhaust system or noise-abatement device so modified.

Yes,.. I meant to include the first portion of my post to include the discretionary statement. 90% of every ticket including how much they set the fine for is at the discretion of the officer. They can lower fines such as speeding tickets if they so choose. My wife said she almost never set the full amount unless the person was giving her a hard time. The same with DUI,.. its at the officers discretion to arrest or not. My wife says it used to be that way but she's not sure now because the cars all have on board video camera's. An officer will be more apt to follow the letter of the law vs being lenient.

Thats the letter of the law. Its the same deal with tinted windows. Yet how many cruisers do we see with 5% tint all the way around?
He just caught the attention of a LEO that was looking for someone to nail. It could have been anyone for any reason. He was at the wrong place at the wrong time. And sadly,.. the officer does have the law on his side.

My wife says to just pay the fine and go on his merry way.

yep cameras changed a few things, some for the good, and a few bad. the dui, hardly any body gets to go home. My wife told me that years ago she was told a officer pulled over some kids, they were drunk, to be nice he sent them home since it was close. On the way home they wreck, somebody dies. Parents sue county, police and who ever else. Police where partially responsible, if they had arrested the son he would have not got into a wreck. Not in Fl not sure where. She wasnt sure how accurate the story was but it makes sense.
