VW vs. Bike
While I'm not a fan of people using cell phone's while driving, I have to question the bike doing "about 85". It seems he was going faster than that to get the bike stuck that far into the car. Plus, I'm curious what road allows speed limits of 85mph and has cross roads in it (here's a hint, there are none), which means he was speeding. So it seems everyone got what was coming to them except the passenger in the car.
That shows how much you have rode before...
I can see that bike doing 85mph and striking the car and it doing that. VW's are the best built cars out there, and thats an older one. Noone deserved to die in that accident. It most likely was the riders fault for speeding and her irrisponsible behavior of talking on the phone.
If I had to take a guess, she seen the bike and thought she could make it before he got there, without realizing how fast he was actually going.

GET SOME

I think Florida is the worst place to ride. From a riders stand point,.. and from witnessing ass hole riders with no respect for their own life.
My wife said that Hillsborough county is 'THE' nations worst for motorcycle related deaths with an average of 1 every week.

I agree to the fullest. Between asshole's in cars thinking there cars do 200mph and trying it and riders riding between cars and actually attempting the 200mph goal. Just not a safe place to be, in a car or on a bike.

I saw a bike that was doing about 45 mph end up inside an Aries K car. At 85 mph I'm surprised it didnt cut the car in half. Back in 1989 I was in the back seat of an 85 Toyota Celica,.. we were doing about 50 - 55 when an RV ran a red light. My buddy hit the brake and skidded for what seemed like an eternity. I know we had to have slowed down to at least below 40 - 45 mph. I was still ejected through the windshield and hit the RV myself. I broke my collar bone, 3 ribs and fractured my pelvis. The car was totalled. The front end crunched and the engine was pushed back almost into the passenger compartment. Then later I worked for a very busy tow company for 3 years and on average I had at least 1 - 2 police calls a day recovering wrecks. I've seen some nasty ones. We like to think we are safe in our cars. I've seen cars crunched and people killed with only 30 mph collisions,.. and people live after being hit at over 100 with the car cut in half. It doesnt take much at all to crunch up a car. Those older VW's are like aluminum cans and will crunch up like one. One of the worst cars to be in an accident in is a fox Mustang. They will crunch up in even minor accidents. Getting rear ended with a 25 mph hit will usually total a fox Mustang.
Here is a good example of what just a 50 mph hit will do. The first hit is a New Edge Mustang hitting the back of a late 80's full size Ford E150 van. That van had a full frame under it and look how hard it crunched up. After seeing that I dont think its too difficult to imagine a motorcycle embedding itself in a car at 85.
