when making a turn from one road to another multi-lane road, it's technically illegal to go over to the far lane first. Legally, you have to turn onto the closest available lane, then make your lane changes from there.
Not so, Padewan...unless, of course, they have changed the laws since I last read the statutes a few years ago. The BOOK said...a vehicle tuning left onto a multi lane highway may turn into either lane so long as it is clear and there is not vehicle turning right onto the same highway in the same direction. Any vehicle turning right onto any highway MUST turn into the lane nearest the curb. If a vehicle turning left collides with a vehicle turning right at the same time and collides in the curb lane, the vehicle turning left is at fault. If they collide in any lane other than the curb lane, the vehicle turning right is at fault.
Of course, this says nothing about dual turn lanes.Common sense would dictate that you stay in your own lane throughout the turn.
Shall we get into the absolute stupidity of the U-Turn laws?
