1970 429 thunderjet and tranny
So there is a 1970 2DR T-bird that has a 429 Thunderjet motor and drive line, 9in rear end , 66000 on the odometer, I really dont know much about theses old cars but my buddy is getting red of the parts and junking the car so he told me 600 for all of it if I wanted it, I figure and its a Investment for later on down that road, also I could use the Ford 9in rear in my 5.0. what do you guys think? all of it is in ok shape.
Honestly, the 8.8 is strong enough to do what most drag racers need. Unless you are going to be changing gear ratios at the track, I don't see the need for a 9 inch. Leave it as part of the original equiptment on the car. I would start crusing the T-Bird boards and see if you can find a buyer for it now...

That thunderjet is basically the same thing as the cobra jet minus the heads and intake and its got two bolt mains and a cast crack also. It could be used for some horsepower. Also, its a damn 70's thunderbird. People would want something like that. It could also be an awesome project for a cruiser. Lots of things you can do with a car like that. And for $600? Thats a badass deal. Seems like you cant find any kind of just rolling shells of old cars for less than a couple thousand. People think they are made of solid gold.

if it's a running car i'd grab it for $600. the engine is a good base to build off, has decent heads( should have DOVE-C ). all 429/460's had cast cranks except the boss '9, it had a steel crank.

429 Thunderjet still sounds like a more than capable beast.
