1970 429 thunderjet and tranny
negative....the 428 was good but the 427 SOHC was the top dog in production form..the 64 thunderbolt was thee baddest factory hot rod..now I'm not saying one couldn't out run the other but in factory form the 427 was the top of the food chain..these factory cars ran 10's in the 60's on shitty tires and suspension

don't worry about the 2 bolt mains, the block is good for around 800 hp. the cj had different heads, cam, carb, dual point dist, and rods, and not all were 4 bolt anyway. iirc most of the 1970 cjs were 2 bolt and the 1971 were 4 bolt.

Yeah but how many EVER made it to production? 428 wasnt even around then.
I disagree.

The 428 SCJ was top dog in terms of production street Mustangs.
If you want to get technical as far as the baddest motor during the muscle car period,.. the Boss 429 (with a few tweaks) could trump the 427 easily. They had to choke the street version down. I owned a 69 428 SCJ Mach 1 in 1986. My friends older brother had a 70 Boss 429. He had custom headers made and an aftermarket intake and larger Holley Carb but still had the factroy cam in it,. and he smoked my Mach 1. He ran in the 11's and my best pass was a 12.9,.. mostly ran low 13's. But for the record,.. other then some Thrush turbo mufflers and a Hurst competition shifter and Zoom clutch,.. my car was bone stock. 69 and 70 are basically the same car,.. just cosmetics. Like the SN95 and New Edge Mustangs.

I was gonna say we had a stock 460 out of a Continental making almost 600 spraying a stupid amount of nitrous though it in a 70 coupe and that thing would fly. IIRC he over heated on the way to the track one day and cracked the block by spraying water from a hose at it to cool it down.
For $600 with a running motor and C6 you really cant go wrong. 429 will except all the early pre 79 460 parts. So its very easy to build up.
